THE FOLDED HOUSE NO.1

2002-2003 | Single Residential | Sydney NSW | 350m² | photo Trevor Mein

This 1890 and 1920’s locally listed heritage item was both restored and added to. A gently folding copper form was designed to allow the sun to enter spaces in a highly controlled way. Like an eye-lid, it tempers the searing Australian light and suns east to west path. The origami folds transform into curvaceous interior forms. As a garden pavilion, the architectural plan forms different decorative and useable courts and terraces. The new architecture explodes from a restored heritage cottage to which it is fluidly attached.
